CODE OF ETHICS:

BDA has voluntarily developed a code of ethics for dietetic practitioners to reflect the ethical principles guiding the dietetic profession and to outline the commitments and obligations of the dietetic practitioner to themselves, their clients, society, and the profession.
  1. The dietetic practitioner provides professional services with objectivity and respect for the unique needs and values of individuals. 
  2. The dietetic practitioner avoids discrimination against other individuals on the basis of race, creed, religion, sex, age, and national origin. 
  3. Dietetic practitioners fulfil professional commitments in good faith. 
  4. Dietetic practitioners conduct themselves with honesty, integrity, and fairness. 
  5. Dietetic practitioners remain free of conflict of interest while fulfilling the objectives and maintaining the integrity of the dietetic profession. 
  6. Dietetic practitioners should be committed to educating and mentoring students, interns, and colleagues. 
  7. To provide objective and fair professional evaluations of performance for employees, colleagues, job applicants, students, and interns. 
  8. To encourage research in the field of dietetics, participate in leadership and other roles that support, advocate for, and advance the profession. 
  9. The dietetic practitioner maintains confidentiality of information. 
  10. The dietitian practices dietetics based on scientific principles and current information. 
  11. The dietitian recognizes and exercises professional judgment within the limits of his or her qualifications and seeks counsel or makes referrals as appropriate. 
  12. The dietitian assumes responsibility and accountability for personal competence in practice. 
  13. The dietetic practitioner provides sufficient information to enable clients to make their own informed decisions. 
  14. The dietetic practitioner does not advertise in a false or misleading manner. 
  15. He or she promotes products in a manner that is neither false nor misleading. 
  16. He or she permits the use of his or her name for the purpose of certifying that dietetic services have been rendered only if he or she has provided or supervised the provision of those services. 
  17. The dietetic practitioner accurately presents professional qualifications and credentials. 
  18. The dietitian presents substantiated information and interprets controversial information without personal bias, recognizing that legitimate differences of opinion exist. 
  19. The dietetic practitioner makes all reasonable efforts to avoid bias in any kind of professional evaluation. 
  20. The dietitian voluntarily withdraws from professional practice if he or she has engaged in substance abuse that could affect his or her practice. 
  21. The dietetic practitioner complies with all applicable laws and regulations concerning the profession. 
  22. The dietetic practitioner accepts the obligation to protect society and the profession by upholding the code of ethics for the profession of dietetics and by reporting alleged violations of the code 
  23. Not to use the BDA name, platform, or logo for self-promotion. 
  24. If a national-level activity is promoted or endorsed by a specific chapter, the BDA logo is to be used after the approval of the NEC. For local chapter activities, the BDA logo with the chapter name at the bottom should be used. Intimation of the chapter activities to the NEC is required. 

The Nutrition and Dietetics Practitioner understands that the BDA reserves the right to revoke or suspend her or his membership in the BDA and/or standing as a Registered Dietitian if she or he is found to be in violation of this Code of Ethics.
